Pertussis (whooping cough), which has caused hundreds of deaths in the last couple of months in our country because of poorly immunized or NON-immunized children has finally come to our community here on the West Coast of Florida. We are begging every single one of our patients who has chosen to delay immunizing their infants to reconsider immediately or stay away from all public places until further notice. Our office phones will be back on at 630 tomorrow morning which is Monday, July 21st. We will fit in every single patient who would like to come and start or catch up on their infants/childrens immunizations. thank you very much for your attention to this matter which affects every single one of us. Please remember that after the first set of immunizations your infant is only approximately 65% protected against that which he/she has been immunized. that number is closer to 88% after the second set of immunizations. My point is that even those parents who are wise enough to immunize their children still might find their infants at risk by being in public places and till this public health concern is better identified and dealt with. Immunizing children helps everybody.
