Peruvians migrated to California since the Gold rush era. Peruvian American have been contributing since then to this wonderful State and country. Peruvians settled in Hollywood in the 60s and 70s at Peru Village to be; many Peruvian Americans have achieved the American dream, From Yma Sumac whose Walk of Fame Star is in Wilcox & Hollywood and she rests at Hollywood Forever, to Kenneth Mc Kenzie, to Carlos Moore , the Jimenez family, who used to gathered at El Rancho Market (nowadays El Pollo Loco at Vine St.), Julie Reyes , Pepe León , and the list goes on. We continue contributing enriching this State day after day. Peruvian Americans are getting more and more involved in government matters, in Hollywood and Los Angeles county overall, like the new elected Long Beach mayor Robert Garcia , Peruvian 1st generation, the activist of Peru Village Los Angeles who do tri-monthly cleanings at Peru Village to be, and are working towards beautification plans for the area, Peru Village L.A.s activists are involved, as well, at our Neighborhood Council, working towards making a greater community. There are Peruvian Americans active in the Film Industry in Hollywood like Marlene Dermer , co-director and co-founder of LALIFF Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, a gateway for so many nowadays renown Latino actors and filmmakers in Hollywood, Qorianka Kilcher, our Hollywood Star, the renown Alex Acuña- who has worked in the musicalization of hundreds on major Hollywood Features, the Milk of Sorrow Caludia Llosas Peruvian film nominated to the Oscars Foreign Film in 2010, the renown filmmaker Ricardo de Montreuil, successful filmmakers like Carlos Ciurlizza - his company Sarabona productions is located at Yucca st., he was in Cannes 2013 for his short film Ready to talk and will be at Busan Film Festival in Korea with his 1st feature film Sebastian, filmed in Peru and L.A., Javier Fuentes Leon, whose Sundance Film Festival awarded film Undertow competed for the Oscar nomination, Dante Alencastre - his documentary film Transvisible narrates the Story of Bambi Salcedo in L.A., Patricia Perez -her awarded documentary Mistura the Power of Food showcased in Los Angeles, and her 2nd documentary Buscando a Gaston will debut at Bel-Air Film festival in L.A. county, Roberto Dominguez Alegria - Editor Grammy winner, Julio Ramos - awarded at Palm Springs International Film Festival & ShortFest, Elart Coello - Laguna Films, David Tirado -TITRA, and the list goes on. The Peruvian American Community is looking forward getting the official approval from the councilmembers of L.A. to our Peru PERU Village L.A. initiative, presented in December 2012 to the city of L.A., in order to be recognized and included in the map of Hollywood, likewise Thai Town, Los Angeles and Little Armenia, Los Angeles.
