Pete Sheehy, New York Yankees Clubhouse Man who knew all the great from Gehrig to Guidry. Photo by Arlene Schulman, 1984. For more about Petes life, heres a great story from the NY Times: nytimes/1985/08/15/sports/sports-of-the-times-pete-sheehy-yankee.html One of my first - actually it may have been my first - baseball assignment was to interview and photograph Pete Sheehy for the NY Yankees fan magazine. He was rather reticent but he was warm and helpful to me as a young photojournalist/journalist who was old enough to be his granddaughter. My telephoto lens was half my size and he insisted that I leave it and any other equipment in his locker in the clubhouse during the season. And when he brought out popsicles for the players, he would bring one out for me, too. He was driven home by a police officer each night and when they found out where I lived - Inwood in upper Manhattan - they insisted that they drop me off when I didnt have a ride. I will never forget their kindness. His grandson emailed me a week of so ago asking for this photo, which I sent, and it has prompted me to write something about my year with the Yankees. Stay tuned!
