Peter Sansevero, husband, father, colleague and friend, dies at 80 Peter F. Sansevero died on September 14, 2013 from complications from Alzheimer’s disease, after living a life filled with love, success, and determination. He is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years Maureen (Ahern), son Peter Sansevero Jr. and his wife Kim and their daughter Gina, and daughter Shannon, her husband Thatcher Davis and their three children Jardin, Latham, and Tristan. Born in Harlem in New York City on January 6, 1933 to Italian parents, he was the second youngest child of seven. He is survived by his sister Rose Renna, brother Louie Sansevero, step-brother Salvatore Serpe as well as 45 nieces and nephews. In service to his country he joined the Army in 1950 and was sent to the Korean Peninsula nearing the end of the war as member of the Adjutant General’s Section at the Headquarters Eighth of the United States Army. Peter left the Army as a Corporal with three commendation medals and went to St. John’s University on the GI Bill where he was a History major and had dreams of becoming a History teacher. He served for several years after in the Army Reserve. Always industrious, Peter worked as a hot dog vendor in Central Park, at the Bronx Zoo, at Coney Island, sold Christmas trees, tore down tenement houses, and as a chalker for Bache and Company. It was this last job that lead him to Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith, joining the firm in 1958 in the executive training program in New York City. Mr. Sansevero, a quick study and ambitious employee, served as Operations Manager, Account Executive and Sales Manager in Seattle, Washington under his mentor, Robert Nathane. In 1969, he opened the first of four Merrill Lynch offices in the State of Hawaii and Guam. It was also the time were he fell in love with the Islands, a love that lasted a lifetime. In 1971, Peter was elected Vice President of Merrill Lynch and went on manage and open offices in Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Stockton, Modesto, San Ramon, Santa Rosa, San Mateo, Pleasanton, Fresno, Napa, and Carmel, California. In 1981, he was promoted to Director of the Northeast and then returned to California in 1985 as the Director of the Western United States. Peter Sansevero retired from Merrill Lynch in 1997 and maintained offices in San Ramon and Honolulu. Peter Sansevero was a devoted fan of the San Francisco Forty Niners and watched his favorite team from a box for over twenty years with friends and family. He loved playing golf, tennis, dominoes, and reading about his favorite subject, history. He was an avid member of the Washington Athletic Club, Outrigger Canoe Club, The Pacific Club, Waialae Country Club, and Round Hill Country Club. In addition to his career and family, he served with Aloha United Way, Junior Achievement, and The Boy Scouts of America, and on the Board of the San Francisco Symphony. He was a loyal and enthusiastic friend and father who believed only the best in people. Thinking big and working hard were the only tools one needed for success and he enjoyed serving as a mentor for many. He will be greatly missed, but has left a lasting legacy. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2039 Mt Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek, on October 9, 2013 at 10am. A Memorial Reception will follow at Round Hill Country Club, 3169 Roundhill Road, Alamo.
