Peter is quoting Isaiah 40:6,7 in our verse for today. He is reminding his readers that human life is as impermanent as grass which soon withers. That physical beauty is as short-lived as the flowers of the field, they fade, droop and die. One had best not count on human glory or physical attractiveness for any source of lasting peace or joy. They may give fleeting happiness, but never eternal joy! 2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not loose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
