Peters Denial A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied. About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.” Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly. (Luke 22:58-62) Peter had an aha moment a moment where he realized he had not only disown knowing Jesus but felt the pain that Jesus felt at doing so. As I read this passage I also felt that jab in my gut knowing that I have also done this in the past. We know him , we feel him, we talk to him , we believe in him and yet when pressures of our life step in we tend to forget him and allow fear to overcome us . May I suggest this morning that we have to recognize that FEAR that is overcoming and allowing us to lose faith in who is in us nothing is but a LIE of the devil. Do you remember that place you were at when you had lost all hope? You had tried everything and everyone but nothing worked. Yet in the back of your mind something kept telling you trust god trust him. Let go and you finally did? Remember that moment when all your burdens were removed from you shoulders and you were lightweight for the first time in days months and in some cases years? Do you remember who you cried? I do The first step in overcoming even the thought of disowning our lord and savior is to recognize it. We are human and we will fall, we will sin, we will fall short of his glory but are you glad that he loves us and forgives us? The time will come eventually when you will have to decide on whether to speak boldly or disown our God. What will we do. Have a blessed day
