PhD Scholarship - Europe and New Global Challenges (EuroChallenge), University of Copenhagen Deadline: October 15th, 2013 #ECPR #ECPR_GSN ----- phd.humanities.ku.dk/how_to_apply/calls/eurochallenge/ The Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, invites applications for a 3-year PhD scholarship connected to the faculty-wide Centre for Modern European Studies (CEMES). The position is part of the research project “Complex diversity: the social and cultural interpretations of changing European and global order’. Eurochallenge WP 3 is concerned with the re-configuration of the European space of communication and culture in facing the challenge of complex global diversity and shifting patterns of globalisation and post-globalisation. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to work with Professor Hans-Jörg Trenz and a newly recruited post-doctoral fellow on the following topics: a) The European public sphere and the transnational character of cultural encounters and representations in times of economic and political crisis. b) The New Media and the mediatized character of transnational cultural encounters and representations in the EU. The successful applicant must have proven interests in comparative European media, culture and communication, democracy and forms of public engagement through new media, public opinion and identities in Europe and the world. The basis for this scholarship shall be in one or more of the following areas: -European comparative culture, media and communication -Digital media and the public sphere -Political participation and democracy -Complex diversity and collective identity in Europe and beyond The application should include a proposal outlining the overall aims and methodology of the PhD project as well as a time-plan.
