PhD students: make sure *you* arent infected with the Stockholm Syndrome! Symptoms include self-blame (I knew what I was getting into, so Im to blame for the wretchedness of my career prospects), economic ignorance (this is just the way things are and the only way they could be), and lack of imagination (full employment? How could that ever be possible? Ill just turn off my brain and accept what neoclassical economists claim). Only criticism: what economy is the author talking about which features jobs with income and security not found in academia that has been neoliberalized (but can be reshaped)? To achieve that, they are ready to forgo the income and security that they could have in other areas of employment by accepting insecure working conditions in the hope of securing jobs that are not expanding at the same rate.
