Pharmacoeconomics Course Certified from The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Egypt Regional Chapter will start 13/02/2014 Todays society is confronted with ever increasing health care costs. One of the factors is the cost of drug innovations. Diseases waiting for therapeutic solutions are complicated and multifactorial in nature. As a result, drug innovation has become even more complex leading to high tech and therefore high cost solutions. The question arises, what is the added value of such high cost innovations and how can it be determined when both benefit and harm are considered. Health economics/ pharmacoeconomics, aims to provide a neutral scientific approach to this challenge. Pharmacoeconomics involves the assessment of the costs and benefits associated with pharmaceutical interventions. The purpose of this course is to introduce the candidate to the concepts associated with pharmacoeconomic analyses and to appropriately interpret and conduct pharmacoeconomic studies to allow for informed decision making. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upon completion of the course candidates will: 1. Have an understanding of the concepts of a pharmacoeconomic analysis. 2. be able to identify the appropriate methodologies for pharmacoeconomic research questions. 3. be able to understand the role of pharmacoeconomics in healthcare decision making within Egypt. 4. He has worked as a clinical pharmacist in at a major cardiac hospital in Des Moines, Iowa for 4 years, emphasizing on CSICU and oncology settings. He moved back to Egypt where he worked in the academia as asupervisor and training director of clinical pharmacy at the Department at Misr International University (MIU). In July 2010, Dr. Elmahdawy accepted a challenge and moved to the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) as a general manager of Hospital Pharmacy Administration. The department is responsible for clinical pharmacy fellowship program, and supervises clinical pharmacy implementation across the government hospitals in Egypt. Dr.Elmahdawy works closely with pharmacists to enforce and educate the importance of patient counseling and education, utilizing drug information resources adequately, and making drug therapy interventions. In July 2011 Dr. Elmahdawydeveloped ISPOR Egypt Chapter and has been elected as a Chapter President. - Dr/Gihan Elsisi : DR/Gihan Elsisi, is Head of Pharmacoeconomics unit at Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Affairs (CAPA), Ministry of Health. She has got her Master Degree on Clinical Pharmacy from Ain Shams University in December 2010 and had been enrolled in certificate program on Health economics and outcomes research at University of Washington. She was the principal author of International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Egypt Health Care Systems Roadmap Pharmaceutical which is posted on ISPOR website. She received 2011 & 2012 ISPOR Awards by attending the ISPOR 14th & 15th Annual European Congresses in Madrid & Berlin. She was representing Egypt in First and Second Middle East Africa Pricing & Reimbursement Future Trends Workshop in Muscat 2012 and Dubai 2013. She is a PhD candidate and the Treasurer of ISPOR EGYPT Chapter. She was a special guest speaker at many International Solutions companies for Achieving Market Access & Maximizing Commercial Performance in T, MENA & CIS Meetings held in Istanbul. She was part of Translation & Review Committee of ISPOR Book of Terms Arabic translated version.
