Phew! Got through the big one! Surgeon said everything went very well - no complications and as we received updates throughout the surgery from nurses, all was calm and quiet - which means good news from an operating room ;-) Oxygen sensors were on her forehead throughout surgery and showed good flow of oxygen to the brain - also good news - means plenty of blood flow to the brain. We just saw my mom post-op and while she looks like she could light up a city block with all the wires and tubes coming out of her and a bit overwhelming - it was good to see her. Way too soon to talk to her, but nurse said she did wake up and wiggled toes and grabbed fingers and blinked eye lids as requested. They are purposely keeping her sedated until they can take the ET tube out of her throat because I explained to the nurse that was one of her biggest fears - waking up with a tube in her throat and choking. Crossing fingers that the tubes in her throat will be removed within the next couple of hours, and then the balloon catheter, and so on. I distinctly remember the joy when one more tube was removed from Kevin each time he had surgery; as that meant one step closer to going home. My dad says it looks like a manifold - the apparatus and plethora of lines that are going into the central line into her throat giving her all kinds of fluids, meds, etc. Ive been trying to read posts/replies or show her photos - as she loves hearing them (cant see so well just yet) - so feel free to send her any wishes or little anecdotes that will keep her distracted from her current state. I reminded her last night that she is a fighter and thats who she is. The road ahead will not be covered with rose petals, so were trying our best to keep her going. And as I walk through the hospital - more than just a couple of times, a nurse has stopped to ask how my mom is doing. Because, as you can guess, she is greatly loved by so many and always has the nurses, assistants, secretaries and even the cleaning staff laughing and smiling. And this morning as I was walking around the PCU unit, (her next stop after ICU) a couple of nurses said they are looking forward to seeing her in a couple of days! Even a phlebotomist who drew her blood just one time like 3 or 4 days ago stopped and asked about my mom ;-) Thanks again for all the well wishes, prayers and bolts of positive vibes being sent our way - definitely being felt and much appreciated. Love, Julie
