Phew, day 1/3 done and dusted! It was a full on day yet enjoyed by all (I hope!). By 9.30am we had roughly 60 intermediate aged kids playing around in the gym getting to meet new friends and meet some of our volunteers – all eager to get right into the holiday program activities. There was a real buzz going throughout the morning as the kids participated in a range of games which got them mixing and laughing. Emphasis on the laughing! There was more screaming and ‘LOL’ing during our team ‘minute to win it’ challenges which saw kids and helpers alike trying desperately to achieve the randomist challenges within the minute to score points for their team. The sight of kids trying to bounce a ping pong ball onto a piece of bread with peanut butter on it was just an example of how crazy, yet hilarious, these activities were! The cooks did a great job of keeping us fed throughout the day – particularly for lunch when they offered on the side of our amazing-american-hot dogs, the option of 4 different types of soup! Thanks cooks :) The afternoon was spent letting off some steam at the local school playing a variety of sports. It was certainly a good move giving the kids some big open spaces to have a good run and scream around in. All the helpers and children were on a buzz by the end of the day. It was great meeting the kids and hanging out and having a fun time. On top of this we hope everyone was able to catch on to the theme that God loves each of us and hopefully the bookmarks that were made with our verse of the day on it - ‘Nothing can separate us from God’s love’ Romans 8v38 - will make it onto the fridges in the homes of the kids! Looking forward to another action packed day tomorrow!
