Phil Neville & Round to follow Moyes from Everton to Manchester United !! The new manager is continuing his radical overhaul of the Old Trafford backroom staff, which is eventually expected to include six members of his Goodison Park inner circle Steve Round has left Everton to take a senior coaching position at Manchester United as David Moyes continues his backroom revolution, Goal understands. Phil Neville is set to follow in the footsteps of the former Goodison Park No.2 and take up a coaching role at Old Trafford after announcing his retirement from playing. Senior United figures initially expected that there would be a smooth transition behind the scenes following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. But Moyes, who officially begins his Old Trafford reign on July 1, is expected to start next season with a radically altered coaching staff that features six members of his former Everton inner circle. United paved the way for a backroom shake-up by dismissing assistant manager Mike Phelan and veteran goalkeeping coach Eric Steele at the end of last month. The Dutchman Rene Meulensteen, who had been the first-team coach in his second spell at Old Trafford, will also leave the club. Meulensteen, who is highly rated within the game for his technical coaching, has been interviewed for the vacant manager’s job at Wigan Athletic. Meulensteen’s place is expected to be taken by Everton first-team coach Jimmy Lumsden, with goalkeeper coach Chris Woods and chief scout Robbie Cooke taking up the positions of Steele and Martin Ferguson, the brother of Sir Alex. They will be joined by Round, the former Newcastle United and Middlesbrough coach who has spent the last five years working alongside Moyes. A position will also be created on the coaching staff for Neville as Moyes maintains a link between the United old guard and the new Everton-dominated backroom team. The former England, United and Everton defender, who has just announced his retirement from playing, has been in Israel helping to coach the England Under-21s and has made no secret of his coaching ambitions. The sixth member of Moyes’ former Everton backroom team expected to take up a senior role at Old Trafford could be Academy director Alan Irvine, although United’s current youth-team chief Brian McClair is set to stay on at the Premier League champions in some capacity.
