Philani Child Health and Nutrition Project seeks to appoint a Programme Manager for its Mentor Mother Programme Zithulele Philani Maternal, based in Zithulele, Eastern Cape. The Child Health and Nutrition Project, expanded its home-based maternal, child health, nutrition and early childhood development programme in 2010 to the villages surrounding Zithulele Hospital and Coffee Bay in OR Tambo District in the Eastern Cape. The Mentor Mother Programme aims to prevent child malnutrition and attendant morbidity and mortality. This is accomplished through house to house growth monitoring and health education, follow up home visits for pregnant women and underweight children, social assistance to access government grants and early childhood development in the home and through informal playgroups. Zithulele is a vibrant health centre which recruits a growing number of committed health professionals with the goal of creating a centre of excellence to serve the local population. The Manager will work with the Programme Administration Manager to manage and be responsible for the successful operation of the Mentor Mother Programme in the Eastern Cape. Working hours: Monday – Friday (40 hour week) Start date: December 2014 or January 2015 Responsibilities: Manage, support and supervise, together with the support of experienced coordinators, +/- 60 Mentor Mothers who deliver home-based child and maternal care in the community; Build capacity and skills of the team through continuous in-service training; Develop and maintain links with the district and provincial health departments, local clinics and Zithulele Hospital as part of the development of the primary healthcare model; Ensure that good relations are maintained with community structures. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Health or Social work or the equivalent work experience; Minimum of three (ideally five) years working experience; Willingness and resilience to work in a rural area; Leadership qualities; Team working; Proactive and able to use own initiative; Commitment to and passion for community development; Ability to work well with and communicate effectively with a diverse team; Computer literate; Valid driver’s licence.
