Philippians 2:3-4 ~ Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, - TopicsExpress

Philippians 2:3-4 ~ Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. (ESV) Look ...to the interests of others. What a concept! I have made many mistakes in my life and continue to do so. The vast majority of my mishaps expended massive amounts of time, energy and effort chasing ideals which were aligned with a world-view and not Christ centered. Every single one of these pursuits have resulted, to varying degree, in predictably utter failure, especially when I subject them to the valuations of selfish success, arrogant achievement and self-centeredness. When I look at my actual accomplishments, they are mostly grounded in selfLESSness. The others, an epic fail. But, because of my belief in Christ and through his selfless gift of sacrifice, I have gained the ultimate prize! So with each new day, I am reminded to pursue the cause of compassion; To check my pride at Deitys doorstep and to humble my humanness, which attempts, at every turn, to overwhelm the opportunities afforded by Christs example; The one which was so brutally, yet beautifully demonstrated upon the Cross! Lord, help me to focus not on how you can better placate me. Let me, instead, vigorously and gratefully embrace the blessings you bestow. Life has reminded me countless times that it is not mine to hold. It is, instead, mine to be held IN. So hold me in your masterful hands as an instrument of praise, fashioned in your favor, lest I resort to being a tool for trouble driven by my own destructive goals and desires. Create harmony with my humbleness, security in my service, works with my worship, power with my praise, victory with my voice and prosperity from your power! Cast my pride to the same winds which carry the sweet fragrance of your favor to me! Be glorified, my Father, that in your Holy name, I may BE blessed! © Dale Golden
