Phone outage in FD Frontier customers affected by cut fiber A cut to a phone fiber in Minnesota knocked out all long distance service to Frontier Communications customers in the state of Iowa Saturday afternoon. Another provider cut the fiber, according to Dana Berkes, public relations manager for Frontier’s central region. “We all share each other’s lines,” she said. The outage occurred at 4:45 p.m. It did not affect 911 service, according to Berkes. The outage Saturday afternoon affected phone service throughout Fort Dodge, including the Webster County Law Enforcement Center downtown. The Law Enforcement Center routed its 911 calls through Calhoun County. It was not clear if any local phone issues were related to the cut fiber in Minnesota. Service to an estimated 14,000 Frontier Communications landline customers was affected, according to police scanner activity. Berkes said workers were onsite late Saturday night, splicing the fiber. “Frontier is ready to test as soon as the splicing is done,” Berkes said.
