Phone rings…. ‘Hello…’ ‘Yeah. Richard. It’s me Frank.’ Pause…. ‘Ok. Frank. How is it coming? Sorry, I lost my phone so I don’t have your number again.’ ‘Its ok. I just want you to advise me on what to do. I have some organizational challenges. My staffs are becoming laid back. Customers are declining by the day – thus, sales figures are dropping. I think you can help me.’ ‘Ok. I think they need a morale booster. We need to make them see things in a new light. We need to expose them to fresh/modern organizational principles that will open their minds and attitudes to new possibilities.’ ‘Great! You are the man. That’s why I called you. You are always at the top of your game. I love you man. So when can we start?’ ‘We will start as soon as my fee hits my account.’ ‘What! FEE? This is not good. How can you charge me, your main man, for this service?’ ‘Listen, Frank, if you want my professional services, you have to be man enough to pay. The best I can do is give you price reduction for friendship sake. But it would be utterly preposterous to ask for a FREE service. The last time I checked, I just paid my rents and bought some groceries. I also took some courses in Organizational Management in South Africa, as you know, these are not free. You don’t want me to starve and run bankrupt, do you?’ The line goes dead….. Dear friends, be careful of people that always want to use the false friendship factor to run you underground. True friends will always support you in any possible way. They will always insist on paying for services rendered, no matter how little. True friends will always provide a ladder to climb to your highest potentials. True friends are not leeches; they are eagles that provide the needed, extra, wings to fly. If you want to fly to the galaxies; you don’t have any business flocking with goats...
