Physical Therapists are rehabilitation specialists and as rehab specialists we know that exercise is one of the core things that is scientifically proven to work to make a healthier and stronger person. Also with the World Health Organization stating that physical inactivity is the FOURTH leading risk factor for death worldwide, now more than ever we need to be exercising if we want to live more optimal lives. Not only does exercise bring with it amazing benefits, like lessening the likelihood of a person being diagnosed with disease, it also lifts the mood and increases ones self-confidence, making for a happier, healthier person. Exercise on a regular basis also works in improving sleep and the ability to concentrate, good for helping you through those long days at work or school. This also improves productivity at work which means more profit coming in, more efficient workers and therefore better customer service. Our students were given an assignment to design exercise programmes for a group of individuals that varied in age from pre-teens with asthma that is not exercise induced to the elderly who are looking to keep in shape and have a balanced lifestyle. The layout for the exercise programme involved exercises for warming up, routines to improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance and cooldown exercises to reduce the chances of injury and muscle cramps afterward for the groups they were assigned. Here are some highlights of the groups doing the class assignment.
