Physical abuse doesnt just hurt the outside. It hurts inside, and on the inside it hurts worse. It leaves scars that no one can see, bruises your heart and twists your mind. You think less of yourself until you are a shell. A husk of what you once were. Putting up a wall helps, on the outside, but that wall is built from pieces of your heart and soul. Your self esteem and confidence. That wall is the last remaining shred of who you really are and until you are away from your abuser you will never heal.
