Physicians in charge of medicine? What a novel concept! I would love nothing more than to see the extinction of insurance companies. It is shameful and appalling that we have allowed legislators, lobbyists, and insurance companies to dictate the course of healthcare. Hospitals are hemorrhaging with new reimbursement rates. The saddest part? The operational costs are being passed on to the employees. Do you think leadership has sacrificed, while employee expenses increases and benefits steadily decline? The forgoing of an exorbitant bonus on top of an already ridiculous salary could go a long way toward meeting an organizational shortfall. Not to mention the solidarity it would show. I am not suggesting redistribution. I do not want anybody elses money, I simply want them to take less of mine. In all the frustration and lack of trust, a culture of apathy and mediocrity is being fostered. A portion of reimbursement is now tied to patient satisfaction, does it make sense to so desperately strain the people that have the power to make the most impact in this regard?
