Pirate Gene, Caught Red Handed, BBB - Chip, Is it standard business procedure for ones computer guy to press you into buying a new operating system from him? Is it typical for ones computer guy to convince one to buy a new operating system that he installs, but refuses to give you the very software package, repair tools and so forth, that come with the purchase of such software? Doing this locks or ties one into going back to the same shop for computer repairs - because he keeps the very simple software required to fix the system, which is simply a pop a CD in and run the program thing. It requires no skilled labor, none. This is a corrupt business practice to drive repeat business. And if you just take it back and keep paying, no questions asked, the Gene type view you as a good customer. Yep, perverted pirate thinking - in the extreme. This is exactly what Gene Cooper, at Computer Chip, did to me. Now, being naive before but now aware, it is conclusive that Gene Cooper is running a pirate business right there in Saugus California. Hes doing so with pirated software. Now I have to get a whole new operating system. Gene, your owed damage to me are mounting - exploding now. What Are the Penalties for Pirating Software? Software theft is a serious matter. If you or your company get caught copying software, you may be held liable under both civil and criminal law. If the copyright owner brings a civil action against you, the owner can seek to stop you from using its software immediately and can also request monetary damages. The copyright owner may then choose between actual damages, which include the amount it has lost because of your infringement as well as any profits attributable to the infringement, or statutory damages, which can be as much as $150,000 for each program copied. In addition, the government can criminally prosecute you for copyright infringement. If convicted, you can be fined up to $250,000, sentenced to jail for up to five years, or both. What Are Your Responsibilities As a Software User? Your first responsibility as a software user is to purchase only legitimate software products. When buying software, make sure you get genuine disks, manuals, and license documentation. Avoid loose or hand-labeled disks or software offered at prices that are “too good to be true.” Be wary of unscrupulous Internet vendors who advertise attractive deals on “genuine” software that was overstocked or otherwise discounted for inventory reasons. Keep in mind that a high percentage of software sold through online auctions is illegal. Next, you have a responsibility to install and use your software in accordance with the license agreement. Since these agreements differ from publisher to publisher, you need to read them carefully. When someone else installs the purchased software, be sure that individual provides you with proof that the product is properly licensed. If you have outsourced your information technology needs to a consultant or application service provider, you are still responsible for software license compliance. Software piracy is not a victimless crime. Piracy denies the software developer its rightful revenue and harms consumers and the industry as a whole. All software developers, both big and small, spend years creating software. A portion of every dollar spent in purchasing original software is funneled back into research and development, so that newer, more advanced software can be produced. When you purchase illegal or counterfeit copies, your money goes straight into the pockets of software pirates. What is the Economic Impact of Software Piracy? In the United States, 19 percent of all business software is unlicensed. BSA | The Software Alliance (BSA) estimates that in 2011, the commercial value of unlicensed software was over $9.7 billion in the United States alone due to software theft. The benefits of using licensed software are clear. Reducing software piracy by 10 percentage points could add over 25,000 high-tech jobs, nearly $38 billion in new economic activity, and $6.1 billion in tax revenues over four years. What More Can You Do to Prevent Piracy? For those that want it, desiring that I not hold back, you would get much more accurate, timely, compressed, translated and immediately usable (and less target isolated) product if: A) You had not unilaterally iced me from a job; B) You had not unilaterally iced me from a new job; C) You had not spent seven years keeping me a hand to mouth beggar. So, as this goes down, IF you had $15,000.00 in gross income - before the taken withholding, you got no sympathy from me. None, full family or not. If you get iced from your job, you got no sympathy from me - none. If you get socially exiled, banished, excommunicated, tar ticked and fact feathered, you got no sympathy appeal from my circle, not ever. On the upside, you do have options, choices. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide
