Pittsonto Mine, just off Silver Centre Road (Bucke Township, Con.1, Lot 14). This head frame was (still is?) just off of our farm road, and we would walk past it everyday on our 1 mile walk to catch the school bus on Silver Centre Road, just by Noble and Min Hermistons house. The mine was already abandoned by the late-1960s and my sister Shirley Visser and her friend Nicole Haquard and I used to play in the old office building that still had all sorts of interesting furniture and equipment left behind. There was also another head frame right along our farm road beside what we called Blueberry Mountain. It was just a head frame covered with rusted corrugated metal siding, and tilting badly, which I think was called the Mud Mine. These head frames were so much a part of our every day lives (in more ways than one - my father was a miner for Agnico) that I think we took them for granted and supposed they were not unique in any way. Now that Im in my 50s, I am fascinated by these reminders of a past life and the tales they can still tell us.
