Pizza 2:The Villa- Director Deepan makes his debut with this thriller starring Ashok selvan,Sanchita shetty,Nasser. The movie is about a wannabe writer,who happens to enter a villa disowned by his father, and the spooky situations he has to undergo,and Whether the protagonist ultimately overcomes the evil. The lead actors Ashok selvan(last seen in Soodhu kavvum) and Sanchitha fit into their roles, but sadly neither do they emote,nor does the screenplay provide them ample scope to perform.Especially, Ashok is just blank, for most part,and his bearded looks add up to the misery.And an actor of Nassers caliber is wasted in a minuscule role, that could have been performed by any newbie. Music by santhosh Narayanan is apt for the mood of the movie, however, when the movie fails to thrill u, theres no way the background score can support it. Cinematography by Deepak kumar padhy captures Pondy very well,and the shots make one anticipate a scary moment(which the movie never delivers,till the very end). The director Deepan, has chosen a good plot,but fills the screenplay with uninteresting and predictable sequences. The first half drags, and a romantic song is thrown in unwarranted.Just when u think the director would shift focus to the horror/thrill part, you are delivered an interval scene with an amateurish graphics sequence. The second half is far better than the first, and moves at a better pace, completely filled with scenes that proceed towards the chilling climax. However, being promoted as Pizza 2, the movie should have matched/exceeded the standards set by the former.The weakest point is that the movie never thrills/scares the audiences like Pizza did. The movie faithfully follows several norms for a horror movie, like ,an open ending.Only that u are disappointed after expecting a surprise. VERDICT: Minimize ur expectations,u wl not be greatly disappointed. An attempt to capitalize on Pizzas success , ends up as a damp squib,sans thrills. Second half is the savior. 6.5/10
