Placerville Police Department hires new Commander: The Placerville Police Department is proud to introduce new Police Commander Kay Iida. Commander Iida was officially sworn Monday afternoon by City Clerk Susan Zito at a well attended ceremony held at the Placerville Police Department. Commander Iida began his law enforcement career as a Reserve Police Officer with the Los Altos Police Department in 1988. He became a full time Police Officer with Los Altos PD in 1996. During his tenure with Los Altos PD, he promoted to the ranks of Police Corporal and Police Sergeant. He served in many assignments including Patrol Watch Commander, SWAT Team Leader, Motors/Traffic Sergeant, Internal Affairs Sergeant, and Training Manager. He joined the Stanford Police Department in 2008. He has spent the last six years as a Police Lieutenant with Stanford PD. His prior immediate assignment with Stanford PD was leading the Investigative Services Division. Kay and his wife Jennifer have three children, and they look forward to joining the Placerville community. During the ceremony, Police Chief Scott Heller said, “Commander Iida brings a wealth and depth of experience to our agency.” He will assume command of the Support Services Division and have oversight of Records, Dispatch, Property and Evidence, Detectives, Internal Affairs, Reserve Officers, Volunteers, Training, Fleet Services, etc. “It was a competitive process with several strong candidates to choose from throughout the state,” said Chief Heller. “I am confident we have selected the best addition to our leadership team as we continue to move the Placerville Police Department forward.”
