Places of Interest in Dinajpur: Dinajpur is located in northern part of Bangladesh. It was once a part of the ancient Pundravardhana stat. How to reach Dinajpur: You can reach Dinajpur town by Bus or Train. If you are using train, that case you can take Drutojan or Ekota Express. Ekota is the best among twos. Kantaji Temple: Kantaji Temple would be the best and worthy visit to you while you are in and around Dinajpur. Kantaji Temple is an 18th century brick temple. This late medieval Krishna Temple built by Maharaja Prannath of Dinajpur is located 13 miles north of Dinajpur town. Magnificently built Terracottas, to see traditional Hindu rituals presenting by the local Thakurs, Serene country atmosphere are your main theme of attraction. The tourist will be surprised to see the historical design of structure at the entrance of the temple. The “Navaratna” temple is a three-storied building where four turrets are placed at the four sides of each ground. Every inches of its wall from the platform to the top of its three stories, both inside and out, pulsates with an amazing abundance figured and floral art in unbroken sequence. You can get there using Bus, Rail, etc, where you have to get off in Phulbari, which is also famous for Barapukuria Coal mine project, etc. Entry fee is Taka 20 per visitor. Ramsagar Tank: Ramsagar is known as largest and most beautiful lake. Ramsagar man-made lake located at Tejpur about 8 km south of Dinajpur district. The Ramsagar Recreation area expands out over about 60 sq. kilometer, with lake. The lake was known as after Raja Ram Nath who excavated it on the eve of the battle of Palashi. That time Alivardi Khan was the Nawab of Bengal. The lake was excavated to provide drinking water to the villagers. It is said that there was an ongoing food crisis and starvation famine in this part of the country from 1750 to 1755 AD. Perhaps Ram Nath started to dig the pond on the reasons for ‘food for work’ and help to survive the famine-stricken villagers. About 1.5 thousand labors proved for digging the Ramsagar. The water area of Ramsagar approximates 1079 m long north south and 192.6m long east west. Probably depth of the lake is 9.5m. There was a Ghat on the center of the lake. 10.75m high embankments enclose the lake. Ramsagar is now a popular tourist spot under the care of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation has developed some features for the visitors around the lake, such as rest room, picnic corners; Small zoo and refreshment corner as well as playground for children to enjoy. Popular attractions in the spot such as fishing, hiking and sailing are also advantage. You can also watch different types of birds like Ringed Plover, Sand Piper and Grayish and Violet Herons. A large numbers of migratory/guest birds visit this manmade lake, which is a source of entertainment of tourists during the winter season. It is a spectacular site and you would not want to miss it if you sight one stuck at its beauty. This lake is very popular among picnickers, nature lovers among dinajpur people and outsiders/ travelers. This spot has a Rest house, having in a good condition for staying. Nayabad Mosque: Nayabad Mosque is located about 20 km to the northwest of the Dinajpur and the bank of Dhepa River at Nayabad in Ramchandrapur Union under Kaharol Thana. The mosque established about 1.15 bighas of land. It has been repaired by the Department of Archaeology. Emperor Shah Alam II was built the mosque in 1793. According to local traditions, Muslim architectural workers who had come to this region from the west to develop Kantanagar temple in mid-18th century designed the mosque. Nayabad a village near the temple, and had designed the mosque for their own use. It is a rectangular three-domed mosque with octagonal minaret shape at the four corners. All the walls are 1.10 miters thick. There are three arched entryways and these are equivalent in height and width. The main arch is 1.15m wide and 1.95 miters high. The south and north sides of the mosque there is an arched window each. Multi-cusped archways have been used in the entrances and windows. There are three Mihrabs in the west side of the walls in range with the three entryways. The main Mihrab is larger than the flanking ones, which are of equivalent size. Three hemispherical domes cover the mosque, of which the main one is larger than the part ones. Of the octagonal minaret shape at the four corners of the mosque two (northeastern and northwestern) still have cupolas on their top. The top of the other two is now exposed. The corner minarets are gradually tapering; each had a lantern-like Chhatri on the top crowned with a cupola. Four groups at frequent durations beautify the outer surface of each structure. The clay plaques (terracotta) used in the design of the mosque has become loose and most of them have been broken. There is about 104 clay (terracotta) use in the outer surface of the mosque. Though broken some of them display flower and creeper and floral elements. It is popular that one contains a construal of a couple of peacocks. Rajarampur Rose Merry Church: Rajarampur Jopmala Rani Mariar Tirtho Mondir is located at Rajarampur village of Dinajpur town. This will take around 25-30 minutes by rickshaw to reach the church. Also for your convenience, the church is nearer to the Mata Sagor, a huge water tank. The church is open for the visitor after the 9:00 of morning. Before that time, you are not allowed to enter. Also you are not allowed to take photographs of the church. I dont know why this peculiar rule. But you can visit inside the church premise freely. Youll love the white colored church. Not that much fancy, but nice one. Also the village view all around the church is also outstanding. Dinajpur Rajbari: Dinajpur Rajbari is located at the Northeast part of the town. The name of the location is Raj Batika, just near to the Rajarampur village. Actually the Rajbari is all in its ruins. Most of the edifices are destroyed now a day. Only few structures are left. While entering the rajbari, you have to cross two large facades, one is currently white colored, and another is called Lion Gate. Inside the Rajbari premises, youll find two Temple, a praying place for the Hindu religions. Among those, one is active. Youll find several statues of the Hindu gods and goddesses inside the Mandir. Where to stay in Dinajpur: Dinajpur has some economy accommodation for your stay; just you need a booking before the start. There are two types of accommodations are: government rest houses situated at different locations across the town, while privately held are enough and affordable for you. Circuit House (teleph. 0531-63112), located west of Bara Maidan is handled by the District Authority, while Parajatan Motel (teleph. 0531-64710) located at New town housing, is a bit expensive for ordinary travelers, however the facilities are much better than others. Ram Sagar Rest house (telph. 0531-65558) located 6km south of the town at Ram Sagar tank will be an awesome place for nature lovers, but no food is available there. You will have to arrange by yourself. Privately held Diamond Hotel (teleph.0531-64629) is renowned for its wide accommodation facilities. There are two hotels (Diamond 1, Diamond 2) under the same name, facing one another, located at Maldapatty in Dinajpur town. They have their own food facilities available near them at Bashuniapatty, 1 minute of walk away. Hotel Sonar Tari (teleph. +8801716018995) at Modern More, Ganeshtala, Hotel Unique (+8801736335264) at Nimatala, New Hotel (0531-64155) and Hotel Konica (+880181829572) at Station Road in Dinajpur.
