Planning is a scientific subject, it is mathematical with little - TopicsExpress

Planning is a scientific subject, it is mathematical with little variation. It would be harsh to comment upon certain planning, but the stark reality is that they were badly planned. The Pitampura Tower in Delhi was supposed to be tallest tower in India with a revolving restaurant at the top to give bird’s eye view to its visitors. It was designed in India, constructed by Indian Engineers with indigenous material. The result is obvious, a badly planned and executed structure; which started vibrating on the very inaugural day. This much was heard of the much-trumpeted Tower. What happened to the restaurant; is only known to the authorities. To a layman this is a bad episode shoved below the carpet for ever. Yet another example of lope sided planning is the sky scrapers being constructed in Metros. Efficient firefighting devices are not provided in these buildings. When the fire broke in Maharastra Assembly building, fire fighters were jetting water in vain. The water-jets did not reach the sixth floor. The fire subsided when there was nothing to be burnt. In the coastal areas, plants to produce potable water from saline water have been planned. Few structures have come up say in Rameswaram but no potable water is forth coming. All the coastal area is suffering from potable water shortage and India is ill affording one liter of water @ of Rs 20. How villagers are managing with such costly water, is better known to Planning Commission. Town planning in India is yet another dismal performance of planners. You see sky scrapers designed by Architects that are devoid of architectural considerations. Architecture is in Taj Mahal, the Cathedral and cannot be incorporated in 1 B.H.K. or a hovel for pigs. Have you seen drains on one side of road and water supply line on the other side, or the electric line on one side and shady trees on the other side in any of the town of India? Have you seen water flowing through drains carrying any debris in any them? Do the designers of the drain remember “self cleansing velocity”? Have you seen a clean drain in any town? Medical Practices in India is another hoax. Have you seen generic names of medicine on any sachet predominantly printed? Metformin is the medicine for diabetes and it is sold in dozen of mafia’s name. The doctors write B.P. 140/90 but no interpretation is written whether it is within limits or out in the danger limit. He writes wt. 90kg with no remark the patient is overweight. I got tested for vascular disease; the technician gave a printed sheet with certain remark that came from the machine itself and the concerned doctor copied down verbatim as his interpretation of the data from the machine. The tragedy is, most of the doctors are incapable of interpreting the results of a machine! Come down to Municipal Schools: the less is said is better! Boys and girls remember more of the method of preparing “Khicharee” than the tables of multiplication. They are asked leading questions that can be replied with least effort. It has been found the ward of an erstwhile Vice Chancellor got 96 out of 100 in Hindi papers in an Inter Examination. One wonders why 4 marks were kept in abeyance? The state of Hindi literature is well known to its connoisseurs. Himalyas are of recent origin geographically. The highest peak of World is in its range. You can imagine the height of Himalayas reducing and the Delta in Bay of Bengal increasing laterally till everything stabilizes on a geological time scale. The Himalyas are full of loose conglomeration of soil, rocks and humus. These flow down in rains in enormous quantity. Few of the most ferocious rivers of the world, Kosi and Brahamputras, flow down the Himalyays. It is difficult to analyze the silt flow with varying degree of silt load and silt charge in a meandering river and it will be still more difficult to garland these rivers with an artificial channel. God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. So was Earth, the Sun, the Moon created created. We are not Gods who will say, “Let all the rivers be garlanded” and all the rivers of Northern India will be garlanded. Extremely meticulous design is needed to connect all the rivers efficiently and economically. Let “Garland Canal”, “Home to all”, “Technical Education to low I.Q.Students”, “Reservation where mental capability is needed” be floated to public debate or at least to comment upon; and only after due deliberation some action be initiated with malice to none.
