Planning to go to Santa Fe tomorrow-debating whether to drive my van (minimum $70 in gas RT, but freedom to get around) -- I think Im presuming that the transmission is now okay, since it got its fluid back- I had unknowingly let it get dried out &/or the fluid didnt get checked when it should have been -- it has seemed to be running fine, even though it didnt get a $1500 new transmission I was being told it needed --seems like a bit of a chance Id be taking if I drive to SF, but I need to know that I can drive it beyond ABQ! - Ive been told by at least one car person (who didnt need to sell transmissions) that I could/should just keep going with it... any thoughts or knowledge about this? 88 Chevy Vista Van, named Ganesh -- its been quite a workhorse or elephant - always solid and steady and strong...the main issue is what is currently 12 mpg, smoking somewhat - it could use an engine rebuild, but thats not the main issue right now -- I also wish I could replace the engine with something that is more ecologically correct but Ive been told its too big and heavy to be able to run with a lighter engine. Ah So... kind of a bind, as I still love it, and its still Very Useful to me, and I cant yet afford any other smaller car...
