Plato, the brilliant, Greek philosopher who lived some 400 years - TopicsExpress

Plato, the brilliant, Greek philosopher who lived some 400 years B.C., and was the founder of the first, ever, institution of higher learning, made the following observation: One of the penalties of not participating in politics is that you will be governed by your inferiors. Benjamin Franklin, when helping found our great nation, said “Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” And he went on to say, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.” Far too few people know the difference between a republic and a democracy. Here is a video that describes the difference. It also describes why our founding fathers designed our government to be a democratic republic. Three minutes of this 10-minute video explains that difference. If you would rather, skip the in-depth definitions of the different forms of government in the first seven minutes. youtube/watch?v=2C_YBhY11yA&list=PLC8749B9C700A85AB&index=1&feature=plpp_video As an aside, regarding the age-old natterings about whether our electoral college as created by our Founding Fathers is good or bad, here’s a great explanation of why it is not just good, but great : How our electoral college works: youtube/watch?v=ok_VQ8I7g6I Bottom line: You live in the country that was founded upon the best system of government on Planet Earth.
