Played with FEELING Keith Jarrett has defined the phrase for decades, and if this doesnt get to you, nothing will. There was an album recorded back in the mid-seventies at a purely improvisational performance of his called The Koln Concert, and I wore a groove deep enough in that vinyl to hold the Red Sea. I played it endlessly, and would do my own such exercises, (of starting with just a theme or idea and letting it take me where it would), on piano AND guitar, for hours. It was beyond inspirational, it was cathartic, and it helped me appreciate not just jazz, but the human spirit and the expression of emotion through music.
