Playing with my favourite toy: a black 1983 Fender 1962 Vintage - TopicsExpress

Playing with my favourite toy: a black 1983 Fender 1962 Vintage Reissue Stratocaster, which is my main guitar since 1997. When I bought it, the condition was almost as new as up until then, it had spent most of his life in its tweed case, being part of a collection. In the meantime, it acquired some serious wear and tear which is real, not some after-market relicing job. The only thing I did was removing the remains of the neck finish when it was worn down about halfway for a smooth and woody feel. The neck and middle pickups are still original, a few years ago I had the bridge pickup replaced with a Fender Texas Special for a slightly beefier sound (but I still have the original bridge pickup!) The previous owner had the electronics slightly modified so that the first tone control affects the neck and middle pickups and the second tone control affects the bridge pickup. The latter also has a different cap which makes the sound rather mid-rangey and almost humbucker-like when turned down. The previous owner had it refretted with wider, slightly taller frets. Not long ago, I had it refretted again with Dunlop 6230 frets as I had worn down the previous frets almost all the way down to the wood in more than 15 years of playing. Ah, and one of the first things I did was fitting Dunlop strap locks for extra security. Set up with 11-49 gauge strings for a big sound and a manly feel, and a blocked trem, I used this guitar on almost every gig, recording or jam session I played for the last 17 years. The only gripe I have with this guitar is that I wished it had a larger neck profile, as it is rather slim and does not quite fill my hand, and it would sound even bigger with something like, say, a SRV-style neck shape. However, it sounds and plays great as it is and most importantly, I perfectly know it inside out. Truly a players guitar, I likely will never part with it for the rest of my life. :) (Foto: Yvette G.
