Unlike with small, fur-covered four-legged animals, these simulators replicate human anatomy—including realistic layers of skin and tissue, ribs, and internal organs. The simulator allows trainees to practice surgical procedures repeatedly until theyre confident and proficient—a sharp contrast to cutting into live animals, in which there are no do-overs. Studies have found that people whove trained using TraumaMan perform better than those whove trained on animals. Through the generosity of compassionate supporters like you, earlier this year PETA was able to donate TraumaMan simulators and completely replace the use of animals in all ATLS courses in Bolivia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, Mongolia, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago.
