Please dont believe everything you read in the paper. Tennis elbow - TopicsExpress

Please dont believe everything you read in the paper. Tennis elbow is a very common cause of elbow pain and most often I see it in patients who DO NOT play tennis. The pain is caused by degeneration of the origin of the muscles that extend the wrist and fingers. Often there is not clear cause or injury to explain why the pain started. Luckily, most patient do get better with simple exercises. This is one area where I do not recommend cortisone as there is not inflammation. There is degeneration, and cortisone just leads to further degeneration. Exercises known as negatives or eccentric strengthening can signal the body to rebuild good tissue and then the pain goes away. In rare cases, I have had excellent success with both platelet rich plasma (PRP) and surgery.
