Please dont hate me, but I just have to vent a little. Two days ago I saw in the Evening News that Tina Turner renounced her American citizenship and it upsets me. I wonder how others feel. I wasnt going to say anything, but this morning in the AOL news caroussel I saw an article that a record number of wealthy Americans living abroad are renouncing their citizenship to avoid paying taxes. I heard about Tina this summer and knew it was about taxes. Others may see it from a different point of view, thats OK. I had to wait five years in America before becoming a citizen and since I was over 16 had to go through the oath and everything. My parents had a tough exam on American history and I wonder if Tina could pass it, then ther was an interview with a judge when my Father was asked if he ever visited a house of ill repute, my mother was in the hall waiting . Anyway, the reason it hurts is that I was up to now one of her biggest fans and I adored her, not just her talent, but as a domestic violence survivor. My husband, who loves pop music and I saw Ike and Tina in 1969 in Miami with college friends, we didnt know the history then. about five years ago we saw Tina and about three years ago. I almost jumped on stage to dance with her . She is a millionair many times ove and now refuses to help shoulder the cost of keeping our militarry going, our highways, special programs in schools to help special needs kids, thats what taxes pay. Well, if you are still reading this, I dont want to prejudice you against a music icon, but Im disappointed. Well, Im subbing in a kindergarten class today and soon all will be well with the world.
