Please excuse my slack behaviour, Ive had a brief foray into the real world and have neglected my duties here at this little corner of Zuckerbergs e-realm. Ive got a few days to catch up on so Ill keep it snappy. Not a lot to report on May 9th, We have the marriage of Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger (Not much to see here, just Bridget Jones marrying a human cowboy boot). We also have another Canadian non-event with the birth of Simple plan bassist Pierre Bouvier. Hopefully the U.N. can prevent the creation of any further Canadian music before it gets out of hand... Im fairly sure that theres conclusive proof of a correlation between mass bee death and the existence of Avril Lavigne. May 10th was a real low point for music in general with Eric Clapton burdening us with his unique take on reggae in 1974. If Bob Marleys version of I shot the sheriff was equivalent to a delicious plate of fresh Jerk chicken accompanied by a glass of fresh lime and 21 year old Appleton Estate rum on the rocks then Erics version is pretty much a cold, half eaten chip butty with some Keens curry powder sprinkled on top (to add a little bit of exotic international flare) all washed down with an extra weak cup of room temperature Bovril. Moving briskly on to the 11th we have EVEN MORE Canadian non-news with Sum 41 guitarist Dave Baksh announcing his departure from the group in order to concentrate on his side project Brown Brigade yet another faux reggae abomination against the human race. And guess who else returned to bore us some more on this day in 1996? Yep, you guessed it... Hootie & Blowfish released their 2nd album Fairweather Johnson. Now based on the statistic that 1 in 2 men on the planet will develop cancer, I can rest easy knowing that half of the band will, most probably, not make it through to their inevitable 50th anniversary reunion tour (scheduled for 2036). Finally the 12th... Collective singing beard Bon Iver released its debut album on this day in 2008 meanwhile, 25 years earlier (to the day) Meatloaf filed for bankruptcy. Now Im not entirely certain what the connection is here but I am sure there is some kind of butterfly-cyclone effect linking the two elements. All I know is that my gut feeling tells me somehow Canada is involved.... See you all tomorrow.
