Please find below our nursery newsletter. (A copy will also be sent out to all the parents) Thank you. Sunnyside’s newsletter September/ October 2014 During the last few months we have welcomed new children and parents to nursery which has been lovely, all the children are settling well and enjoying their time with us and making new friends!! Firstly we would like to update you with our staffing changes within the nursery. Roz who has worked in the 2-3 unit has decided to commence a new career in Cornwall. Roz has really enjoyed working at Sunnyside and with the children. We wish her all the very best in the future. We are also looking forward to welcoming Helen Sankey back from her maternity leave. Helen will be working within the 2-3 unit and is looking forward to coming back to Sunnyside. Please find details below of the staffing structure: Baby unit Cher, Siobhan, Leah Toddler unit Louise and Liandra 2-3’s unit Sian, Lorna & Becky Helen Sankey Pre-school unit Laura , Racheal and Helen Scott Wilson Office Vicky, Cher & Bhav Kitchen Yvonne If your child’s key worker has changed, you will be notified by personal letter in the upcoming weeks. Please ask the practitioners if you would like to have a look at the learning journeys. Dates for your diary: Monday 15th September – Raffle tickets will go on sale for our grand draw on the 29th September (Our shopping evening) Thursday 18th September – Hawaiian party dress up day! Friday 19th September – Hawaiian homework due in to create beach picture Friday 19th September – Genes for jeans day- children can come in their jeans and donate £1 to charity if they wish to do so. Monday 29th September - Our parent crafts shopping evening. If you would like to represent your business on the evening please speak to a member of the management team. Thank you. Thursday 23rd October – Diwali celebrations at Sunnyside including Indian food tasting! W/c 27th October – 31st October – Halloween week! A fun filled week full of exciting spooky activities for the children to enjoy. More details to follow. w/c 3rd- 7th November – Bonfire week celebrations. More details to follow on our fun packed week! Events will be posted on the Facebook page, posters on the nursery doors and letters sent home. Any children who are not in nursery before the event, we will aim to contact you be text or a telephone call. Please update us with contact email addresses or mobile numbers if there has been any change thank you. Practitioner emails Please can we remind parents that we have the email service in place so that you can directly email the practitioners and the management team. Training updates All the team at Sunnyside are committed to their roles as professional practitioners and attend training courses as part of their ongoing commitment to the children attending Sunnyside, with that taken into consideration few of the practitioners will be attending Maths Development training in October and a creative minds conference too. In house training will continue to ensure practitioners at Sunnyside have the most up-to-date knowledge. The practitioners have really been working hard to complete online training on a regular basis which has certainly supported them in ensuring that they provide the best possible support to the children in our care. Nursery opening and closing times Please can we remind parents that our nursery is only insured from 8am – 6pm. Please ensure you do not leave your children before 8am in the room and arrive before 6pm so that the practitioners can update you about your child’s day at nursery. Thank you. Personal belongings Please can we request all parents to ensure that all personal belonging have been labelled with your child’s name. Thank you. Outdoor natural area The children have really been enjoyed the new natural area outdoors. They have taken part in activities such as mini beast hunts and making mud pies. Lots of birds have been coming to visit too which has been very exciting for the children. Room news…. Baby room • Please can we request all the parents to bring in family photos so that we can create family books for the babies to look at during their time at nursery. • We have really been enjoying textured play in the baby room. We have explored porridge, mash potato and shaving foam play which has been lots of fun. • Junk modelling has also been lots of fun. The children have enjoyed creating their very own creations and making music using their imagination. • We also have been learning our new Makaton signs. The children are really doing well. Please speak to the room practitioners if you would like more support to continue Makaton at home. Toddler room • Toddlers have been exploring textured play including sawdust, hay, rice pudding and lentils. They have been making marks with different apparatus and have enjoyed getting messy! • A new physical area has been introduced in the toddler room which the children have really seemed to be enjoying. 2-3 unit • We have had lots of fun baking lots and lots of yummy things such as banana bread, pizza and cookies. We even have our new baking area to explore in which the children have been creating some delicious recipes!. • Please can we kindly ask all the parents to being in family photos for upcoming activities- thank you. • As part of our new behaviour management incentive within this unit, we will be asking all the parents to decorate a small jar with your child at home and bringing it back to nursery by 26th September 2014. Thank you. • Our 2-3 unit development work is currently in process. We are hoping that all the work will be completed by the end of September. Preschool • As part of our behaviour management incentive, please can we request parents to decorate a small jar with your child at home and bring it back to nursery by 26th September 2014 if you haven’t done so already. Thank you. • Can we remind parents about our signing in board in preschool which helps children recognise and attempt to ‘write’ their name. A booklet about mark making in early years is available upon request to borrow which highlights key information about mark making. • Preschool have really been enjoying mathematical activities such as counting, measuring and estimating. They have also been enjoying their new home corner in which the love looking after their puppet friends ‘Ted and Suzie’.
