Please help those of us who suffer with thyroid diesease. I started having symptoms at a very young age. My mom has a sister that had thyroid disease and it affected her terribly and caused both physical and mental complications. Mom didnt want any of us to have thyroid trouble so i was called moody and my symptoms ignored. I went through miscarriages, fainting, extreme sensitivity to cold, constant constipation.... At any given time i had at least a dozen symptoms. At the age of 39 a nurse practitioner said my TSH test cam back at 3.9 and said i should start taking levothyroxine. My prior tests came back higher but those drs didnt think it was high enough to treat. Remember i had dozens of symptoms. After taking meds for a while i felt better but never did i feel WELL. I am 54 yrs old and after yrs of drs telling me it was pms and then menopause i still just couldnt understand why drs only use TSH test to decide proper medication for this. I had been telling my dr for years that i felt like i had been hit by a truck and i was exhaused at all times. I had to demand further testing of vitamin D levels and free T3 and T4 i begged and cryed before he would agree to test. Needless to say my vitamine D was 12. My T3 and T4 levels were also not at the proper levels. He then told me to take only 1000 of vitamin D when on all the places i looked up the recommendation was 5000-10000, yes he is fired. The problem is he was the 5th dr i saw that refused to give me both perscriptions for T3and T4. My body does not process the T4 so i have to have T3 also but it took years of unnecessary suffering because drs refuse to perscribe it. They need to be educated!! Please im begging you! I feel like i am dying if my TSH is not .5-1.3. The reason i can function today is because my endocrinologist treats by listening to the symptoms. And does further testing that just the TSH test. I could go on for hours about this because finally after 30 years i have my life back! It took 30 years or more and 7 Drs before somebody listened and properly treated me. This is criminal. Proper education and updated recommendations of tests and a priority of the symptoms is vital! We deserve proper care. Thank you for listening to my concerns.
