Please read and think about this when you are reaching out for help or you are offering help to those in need. I dont do everything right every day. I dont claim to be more than what I am. I dream big about what is possible for others. I hope I help others dream big about what is possible for them. I am human. If one claims to be a savior they one day will find themselves needing to be saved. People save themselves. All the rest of us can do is listen, provide some direction, love them no matter what, and be there for them if their choices lead to them falling and praise them if their choices lead them to a new stepping stone. Being a Founder or Director of a nonprofit does not put me in any special category to help others all it does is open up a few more doors to those who might need help. Who a person is, their character, their life experiences, the choices they make to put their own opinions and vulnerabilities on a shelf to help others is what makes a person more able to help than some title. I dont want to be remembered for my title at The Arms Forces. I want to be remembered for the person I am and how I made others feel about themselves. I dont make the change happen; all I can do is inspire someone to want to make the change!! It is a very dangerous thing to put ourselves on a pedestal as saviors. The MOST dangerous is when we in positions to help others manipulate, promote, coherse others to believe we are the important ones so we can get money, prestige or some personal gratification that borders on psychological abuse. IIt isnt us, as the leaders of nonprofits or other service providers doing the BIG WORK it takes to change a life; it is THOSE WE SERVE who are doing the HARD WORK to change their lives!!!! I am saddened more and more each day to see how others use their power to gain control over others, especially those who have served our country and their families.
