Please read this letter I wrote, if you want to better understand Bill 10, The Proposed Childcare Modernization Act and how it may affect you: If you are a parent of infants, toddlers, preschoolers or kindergarten age, this Bill WILL affect you. If you are a parent of multiples or have 2 or more children in the aforementioned age groupings, this Bill WILL affect you. If you are a family, with children CURRENTLY in the care of an Independent Childcare Provider (ICP), this Bill WILL affect you. Here is a summary of Ontario Childcare Providers and Ontario Parents Concerns: The Liberal government introduced Bill 10 - Child Care Modernization Act on July 10, 2014. The passage of the Bill will result in the elimination of 140,000 childcare spaces in Ontario and increase childcare costs by 30-40%, especially in rural and suburban areas. Bill 10 could force licensed day care providers to close, impacting home child care operators, private schools and Montessori schools as well. The Liberal government has asked for quick passage of the Bill but has not properly considered these repercussions for all Ontario parents and Childcare Providers. Parents and Childcare Providers in Ontario want the Liberal Government to conduct a province-wide consultation during the 2014-2015 Legislative Winter Recess at which time the Minister of Education will travel across the province to Hamilton, Guelph, Ottawa, Kitchener, London, Windsor, Sudbury and Toronto to consult with parents and childcare workers to understand how the Bill will negatively affect Ontario children, parents and childcare workers. It has become apparent through the Ombudsmans Report, presented during the second reading of Bill 10, that Childcare Providers in Ontario are being scapegoated when the real problem is the ‘systematic government ineptitude’. THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO MAKE RESPONSIBLE CHILDCARE PROVIDERS THEIR SCAPEGOATS. THE MINISTRYS OWN INCOMPETENCE, INEFFECTIVENESS AND INCONSISTENCY IN FOLLOWING THEIR OWN PROCEDURE REGARDING COMPLAINTS IN THE UNLICENSED SECTOR IS WHAT LEAD TO THE TERRIBLE CONDITIONS THAT LEAD TO A CHILDS DEATH ON JULY 8, 2012. Childcare Providers of Ontario are not going to be able to afford to operate because the government has used a tragedy, caused by the criminal behaviour of a few and the governments ineptitude in responding to numerous complaints, to punish all Childcare providers.
