Please report the illegal sales of water turtles under 4. Together we can stop the exploitation of these long lived animals that are treated like disposable pets for children. If you cant afford a few hundred dollars to set up a turtle properly then you shouldnt have one. Turtles should not be housed in a tiny tank in a childrens bedroom, they need a minimum 10 gallons of water per inch of shell as well as a basking area, that means a 40 gallon tank filled up halfway is only enough room for one 2 turtle. You can expect a red eared slider or yellow belly slider turtle to get over 10 and live over 50 years. Some sellers try to skirt the law by using the exceptions allowed for legitimate scientific and educational purposes.
