Short Summary Disabled Uk was started 1 year and 4 months ago, designed to help and support Disabled People and their families in times of need. WE started off a a small group of disabled people and non disabled people volunteering time on our Facebook group page. As the year mark of forming the group approached we had gained 2000 members and 4 months later were almost double that. With the growth of our group and the amount of help that we saw was needed we decided that it was about time we tried to make this group a charitable organisation, that would be able to offer all the help people needed under one roof, we have even gone as far as talking to other organisations such as other disabled organisations and solicitors to ask them to join us on our website so that information and direct help was available on one site. We are currently looking for funds to set up this website and also buy some charity wristbands to help us fund further projects which will benefit the disabled and their families. What were looking to offer on our site via our own organisation and other organisations that have joined us is as follows... But we can only do this with your help: a website that offers one stop help with help and advice, legal support and advice, welfare advise, online chat community to offer support to those going through a round time or having trouble adapting after they may of become recently disabled. Were starting up the Disabled UK award for Companies and schools that excel in disabled services and facilities. To get this award the company has to be nominated and vetted by disabled people. by doing this we hope to bring more awareness about both mental and physical health disabilities and hopefully make companies strive to have this award meaning better customer service to the disabled. All companies will be listed on the website with reviews from clients. Were looking at starting up a charitable fund to help families who need to be with loved ones or visit them in the UK when they are in hospital miles from home on a long term stay, maybe due to transplants or major ill health where they have had to be transferred to a specialist hospital like Aden brooks- were looking at doing this to fund either a hotel stay for the family so they can be close or fund some of their transport costs to visit their family (immediate family) Funding or part funding wheelchairs or scooters for those who are in desperate need of a mobility aid to live a more independent life funding pages for all grants and services available to them We are currently working on a number of other ideas and actively looking to help make disability awareness a all round reality. as there are too many people and companies out there that are so miss informed What We Need & What You Get Well to get us started and on the right course were looking for funding to get the following: we need at least £350 to buy the minimum amount of our charity wristbands which is 1000 bands, sold at £2 each or £2 + P&P if bought online. This will produce £1650 of funding to buy more bands and the rest goes into our funding We need a further £4150 to develop all the features on the website and make this a reality. This will enable us to offer more support to many of the UKs disabled people who just want a better quality of life and a bit more independence If we dont make our full funding budget we will be diverting funds to buy more charity bands to sell UK wide which will eventually get us the funds we need to develop the website we need to offer the next step in services we would like to offer All Disabled UK staff are volunteers, our up and coming trustees are also volunteers, our admin are all volunteers too, we dont take any funding for admin or anything else we are 100% voluntary. the only thing your money will fund is the website, charity bands, funding for the above mentioned charitable causes (once we are established) and stationary ie paper and ink (Kodak ink so its nice and cheap) . Those who donate £3 or more and register their details will get mentioned on the Disabled UK website on our thank you page to all the donors that helped made the site possible and we will also send you a Disabled UK charity band From this funding no one takes money for their time, travel, lunch etc it all goes to the bands and website!! The Impact This will give disabled people the boost they need with all the government funding cuts at this present point in time with many needed funds such as independent living, social care and more either being stopped completely or slashed to near non existent, It will offer them support when there feeling at their lowest, help give them a bit more independence or even just someone to talk to. We hope that with the strategies we have ready to deploy that disability awareness for both mental and physical disabilities will grow in the UK both in public and in the work place Other Ways You Can Help We understand that not everyone can afford to give their money to charities but its not just your donations of money were after!
