Please see if my comments below make sense:- Modi may have used the Hindutva plank to come to power. But a large majority who voted for him did so because of the performance (or the lack of it) of the previous government and Modis proven track record of good governance. If you notice, after becoming PM, Modi has taken pains to talk of positive things contributing to nation building and avoided mention of issues even remotely likely to annoy sections of people. He has extended a hand of friendship to Pakistan on his swearing in, uttered the right words and rendered maximum prompt help in Kashmir that is reeling in the aftermath of devastating floods -- a fact openly appreciated by his known detractors from the Congress, Dig Vijay Singh and Gulam Nabi Azad -- These moves are totally at deviance from known pre-election stand and rhetoric, for example, of finishing off Pakistan or scrapping article 370 or introducing uniform civil code etc. Even Bajpai, during his tenure trod cautiously in order not to stir the hornets nest. In fact, BJP rule found Indian Minorities having perhaps a better time than during the much publicized Congress secular rule. Even Babri Mazjid demolition took place when Congress was in power. Modi should be allowed to perform. Full cooperation must be extended from all quarters to realize the national goals as envisaged by him. It might take full five years. Once the progress and intentions become clear, there can be none better than Modi to introduce to Indians the essence of Richard Dawkins letter to his 10 year old daughter (link attached at the bottom) which is as follows, “Do not believe any thing unless it is supported by EVIDENCE. The concept of God, the stories & myths in our religion and the preaching by men thought to posses special powers, are mere traditions that have been handed down to us by our ancestors, teachers, religious books, preachers and so on, without supporting EVIDENCE” Modi must identify influential people who are above religion (even Atheists) who have no religious-political agenda and involve them in his endeavour to spread Dawkin’s message. With general concurrence, the concept must be made part of the school syllabus in 4th or 5th standard across the country. When a person of Modis stature and background is seen by Christians and Muslims, drifting from the so called Hindutva agenda towards a hitherto un-discussed yet simple, profound, reasonable and logical concept that helps to encourage universal brotherhood, it is likely to appeal to most. Congress that has taken shelter under the secular umbrella will be lost for words. If not any thing else, a sensible thought would be sowed in the society and instances of communal hatred would reduce.
