Please set aside political parties and other agendas for a second. I sincerely hope you dont get mad at me for saying what I am about to, but please consider it anyway if you can. I just hid one of my overly long entries where I laid out my reasons for believing Dick Cheney is probably the worst thing to happen to country in years. Not (either) Bush. Not Clinton. Not Obama or Carter or Reagan or Even Nixon. I have come to this conclusion not because of something said or done on TV, but by going back and reading ancient articles in newspapers from the time thede things happened (mostly midwest papers) and carefully noting the things he said, the contrary views not from politicians, but expressed most often by his own advisors, which he generally ignored. I am convinced that Dick Cheney had an agenda, and he made the facts fit the agenda and then used his formidable powers of persuasion to control our president. And us. The precise nature of his agenda I do not know, possibly something to do with oil, but after 9 11 he was clearly aimed at Iraq and, along with Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld, virtually controlled everything the president had to say about the subject. The cost of the resulting war? Approximately 3 trillion dollars (pretty close to our entire national debt) and the lives of almost 4500 American Soldiers, not to mention easily 20 times the number of Iraqis. Also almost universal animosity toward America in that part of the world. And now we are talking about doing this again? I do not expect any of you to agree with me at the outset, and I dont think many people keep newspapers like me (I was a journalism teacher, which I should have stuck with I guess, but that is a different subject), but I beg you to go back and reread articles from the time, particularly those following statements he has made. It is hard work, but I think if you really do that, you will, at the very least, come to doubt the mans integrity, and possibly his sanity. He is a highly skilled persuader, and even charming, but he is at the very least the last person we should be listening to about Iraq now. He is still a very dangerous and beguiling person. You MUST question everything he says. I am beginning you to do this. Thank you.
