Please share this message... A horrific tragedy struck County Line Stable in Manteno (Alanna/Steve Smith Family) yesterday evening when a major tornado leveled both horse barns -- creating a devastating trail of COMPLETE destruction. By the grace of God and the incredible community outreach, the family is safe and nearly all of the 19 horses were saved. The emergency fire department rescue efforts were understated, when referred to as remarkable. The total injuries are not yet known, but the after shock of mountainous challenges remains the bitter reality for the Smith family. Many people have asked "how can we help"... There are multiple ways and I hope you will share this email with your friends via email and Facebook... 1) Say a prayer for inner strength for the family to find peace amongst the rubble. 2) A donation check payable to: County Line Stable Tornado Relief Fund. This will go directly into a special non-profit/charity checking account for the family to buy immediate supplies (hay, feed, bedding), as well as to pay for fencing repairs, shelter supplies and medical expenses. Your contribution to this emergency relief fund can be made 1) at any HOMESTAR BANK location in Kankakee County OR by mailing c/o Bobbi Kelley, 547 S Walnut St, Manteno, IL 60950. Note: a $25 donation will help ONE animal for ONE week - without vet supplies. Any contribution will truly make a difference! 3) A Pay Pal account been set up for electronic donations. You can pay with your credit card OR PayPal account. SEE LINK BELOW. 4) For the short-term, the housing needs for all animals have been secured. However, there are likely (not yet certain) to be some hackney ponies needing a new forever home. If you are open to adoption possibilities, please email Bobbi: bkelley1964@gmail to give contact info for possible future contact by the owner. 5) A hay donation can be arranged by texting or calling Beth Kendra (708-269-1549), Kim Patrick (815-600-4741) or Bobbi Kelley (815-922-8438). 6) We are planning a clean-up day this coming Saturday (6/15) or next Sunday (6/23)--- we will share details ASAP. You can help in 3 ways: 1) physically help separate salvageable debris on the clean up day 2) Donate $ ASAP - to help buy immediate repair supplies 3) Provide bottled water, ice, soda, etc. for the crew. (Note: work gloves, chain saws, tree limb cutters, fence repair tools, garbage bags, tarps, utility trailers, etc. will be needed) 7) A "lean to" shelter is immediately needed for their pasture (6 hackneys still at the farm). Does anyone have a Kankakee area contact for discounted building materials, lumber, nails, etc? We are hoping to get materials in the next two days and get a shelter built ASAP. This is critical - since it will take a little while for the insurance company to begin the removal/rebuild process. Click This Link to Donate
