In-Home Supportive Services provides hundreds of thousands of Californians who need caregivers the ability to remain in their homes. Despite running a $5 Billion surplus, Governor Jerry Brown proposed cutting IHSS by 7% and capping the number of hours for which IHSS caregivers can be paid. This will interrupt the continuity of care that is so vital for seniors with Alzheimers, kids with autism, and countless others. It also means an up to 40% cut in pay for IHSS caregivers -- 90% of whom are women whose households and families will be harmed by the Governors proposal. On May 13, disability rights and mental health advocates from across the state, will join with caregivers, and recipients of care in Sacramento to demand a revised budget -- one without the Governors proposed 7% cut to IHSS, and without his proposed cut to the amount of hours for which IHSS caregivers can be paid.
