Only One Day Remains to Help Mexican Wolves U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) is changing the rules guiding conservation of the critically endangered Mexican gray wolf. While some provisions are worthy of support, including expanding the range where captive Mexican wolves may be reintroduced to the wild to establish new packs and territories, the agency’s proposal as a whole does not match the level of commitment required to re-establish a viable, genetically diverse self-sustaining population. In fact, it makes it easier to kill Mexican wolves! With only 83 Mexican wolves confirmed in the wild, we cannot afford half measures. It’s essential that USFWS’s proposal include rules to help Mexican wolves thrive, not ones that will push them closer to extinction.
