Mary trained as an advocate for people with disabilities and has been advocating for their rights for nearly 16 yrs. She has been involved in a number of things over the years:- Treasurer of Kildare Network of people with disabilities, community and voluntary rep on Kildare Co. Council strategic policy committee on Housing & Social Inclusion, board member of People with Disabilities Ireland Ltd and Irish Advocacy Network, Laois respite Action Group, rep on National Council of Special Education consultative forum, part of NDA mental health advisory group, Special Needs Parents Assoc., DCA review working group and the DSP DCA advisory group. She is currently an active committee member of People with Disabilities Kildare and the Midlands Regional Forum of people with Disabilities. In recognition of her experience of disability she was appointed by Min Lynch to the National Disability Stakeholders Group and the National Disability Strategy Implementation Group. She has just recently been nominated and accepted as a rep on The Dept of Health implementation strategy advisory group. Mary also provides an advocacy service to parents of children with disabilities. Most importantly shes also secretary of Laois Offaly Families For Autism (LOFFA) who are her chosen charity. All of this and all of the positions she holds are voluntary. LOFFA is Marys chosen charity as apart from the voluntary work she does she also is Mum to our three children with ASD. Shes absolutely passionate about defending the rights of people with disabilities young and old which drives her to do the work she does. She also believes that information and support should be freely available to PwD and their families so has no hesitation in taking calls and assisting families wherever she can help. I hope you agree that shes a deserving community champion and are willing to vote daily for her and LOFFA to win.
