Please vote today and please vote for Andrew Cuomo and Kathy Hochul. I encourage everybody to vote for the entire Democratic ticket, but Ill tell you why I support Cuomo/Hochul. 20 years ago I was working for Mario Cuomo and I went into Election Day expecting a victory. Things didnt work out then, and the lesson I took away is that you can take nothing as a given. Campaigning and hard work win elections. Governor Cuomo and Kathy Hochul work it as hard as can be. The Governor, as Governor treats every day like it his last chance to make a difference. He is a demanding boss and pushes us to treat every day the same. He demands results. Thats what he values. I leave it to all the newspaper endorsements to list out what those results have been. But I got to know Andrew Cuomo over the last 20 years, since the time I worked for his father, and I mostly got to know him in Western New York. He was coming here when he wasnt running for anything. The man has a genuine affection for and fascination with Western New York. From my front row seat, I have witnessed an amazing turnaround that, no, wasnt entirely the result of his leadership- it is a team effort with far too many contributors to list out here- but the most obvious difference over the last four years has been the Governor. Of course there is much more to do, but there have been so many accomplishments in WNY that the culture here has changed from hang-dog to pride. There are so many announcements that weve made that big, substantive achievements sometimes dont get announced at all because there are just that many. I actually see this all over the state, but no other place is as close to my heart and thus serves as the measuring stick. And no other place needed the lift, and thus is more excited about what is happening than here. I have also known Kathy for about 20 years. While she hasnt been in a position of governance over the past six months, I have witnessed a dynamic campaigner who doesnt stop and tries to squeeze as much out of a day as humanly possible. Shes going to take the same approach to her new job as Lt. Governor, a job I know can make an big difference because I saw Bob Duffy set a new standard. Shes going to bring more Buffalo to Albany, which is just what Albany needs. And the argument about what is the best part of the state will shift from Buffalo v Rochester to which part of Buffalo! Its been a tough four years, a tiring four up years, but such a consequential four years. As this term comes to an end, what is clear to me is that there is more to do, but also that this is the right team to do it.
