Please welcome George Utrilla AKA The Random Artist to the 2014 California Roots Haven Art Studio Live Art Team. George Utrilla, aka The Random Artist, is the Winner of the Wild Card contest and is a great testament of why California Roots reaches out to the fans to help discover new talent for this movement. George is a freelance artist, photographer and videographer based in Petaluma. His love for the arts started in first grade – 1983 – almost as soon as he could hold a crayon. By the time he reached high school, he’d kicked it into high gear. And by the time he graduated, in 1996 he knew that, for him, college would be a waste of his time. His inspirations come from experiences, situations, state of mind, emotions and current events and he works in a variety of styles including abstracts, landscapes, surrealism, portraits, cartoons, political humor and black light art. Utrilla frequently goes short on sleep, losing track of everything except the creation emerging under his brush, and a marathon painting session can last from evening until early, early morning. Seven years ago he discovered the pleasure and fun of Live Art – the very real connection that occurs between him and an audience transforms the frequently solitary world of the artist into an improvisational, humorous, interactive event where he can experiment with new techniques, styles and surfaces. To George – art is spelled with a capital A – Art is Anything. Art is Everything. Art is Life.
