Pleasing God By: Seth Gogo Egoeh Those who pleased God were people of faith. I have searched scripture and the only way God is pleased is through faith. You can only please God through the faith you have in Him. We are told that, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”, (Hebrews 11:6). The writer of Hebrews talked about the faith of Abel, who pleased God by offering a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. Enoch pleased God through his faith and he did not see death. In the days of Noah, when there was no rain, God told him to prepare the ark. Through faith Noah obeyed God and prepared the ark and the floods came. Because Noah obeyed God he, “became heir of righteousness which is by faith”. By faith Abraham left his hometown and sojourned to a distant land. Abraham’s motivation was the fact that “he looked for a city which hath no foundations, whose builder and maker is God”. Having been told that he will be blessed with many children, God gave Isaac to Abraham. But when God required Isaac for a sacrifice, he believed God and obeyed. God was very pleased with him and provided a ram for the sacrifice. Sara conceived in her old age because she had faith, (Hebrews 11:4-11). By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau. By the same faith, Jacob also blessed his children when he was about to die. Joseph, Moses, Rahab (the harlot), Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephtae, and David amongst many other believers received righteousness through faith, (Hebrews 11: 20:23). All of these people were counted righteous because of their faith. Righteousness is by faith. None of these guys was perfect but because they believed God and obeyed Him they were considered righteous. This should encourage us to follow their footsteps and leave a legacy of faithfulness to those who will come after us. The interesting thing about these guys is that they have not received the promises. “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims of the earth”, (Hebrews 11:13). The promise is to have eternal life in heaven, which cannot be fulfilled on earth. They knew that they were pilgrims on this earth and that heaven was their home. They were motivated by this truth and worked towards it. We have to bear the same truth in our mind and this should guide and motivate us to obey the Lord. Thank you and stay blessed.
