Plenty of bright sunshine and summer-time temperatures will dominate most of the eastern and western U.S. Saturday. Squeezed between these two areas, a large stretch of the central U.S., from the western High Plains to the Upper Midwest, will have to contend with afternoon showers and thunderstorms typical for this time of year. A few pockets of severe storms will interrupt outdoor plans in the Mid-Mississippi Valley and Upper Midwest. Florida will also have a few afternoon storms. Summer temperatures will be the norm throughout the U.S. Saturday. The hottest readings will be found in the Southwest, where triple-digits will be common. The rest of the southern U.S., from southern California all of the way into the Southeast and southern Florida, will be in the 90s, with some areas of Texas approaching 100 degrees. The Great Basin into the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi and Tennessee valleys will warm into the 80s, with the northern Rockies, Midwest, Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast seeing upper 70s. A few cooler 60s will greet the Northwest and Northern Rockies. The exception will be western Washington and the Minnesota Arrowhead and Upper Great Lakes. Sunday`s highs will be very similar to Saturday`s readings. The hottest spots will once again be in the Southwest and interior California deserts, where triple-digits will be the norm. A few near-100-degree readings will also be possible in central and southern Texas. Outside of 70s in the northern Rockies, along the Pacific Coast, and New England, the rest of the U.S. will be in the 80s.
