Po folks part 2. In May I visited Italy. I am usually buying rail passes or figuring out German Rail and their various discount railcards that we can buy on the spot if US citizens . First, you can buy a German Tourist Pass when you arrive that is better priced. Now, Italy...I simply bought tickets as I went. I even stayed in Bologna and took day trips to Milan and Venice, I am beginning to dislike packing and schlepping. All last minute. I traveled 7 days and it cost me $371 @ a rate of 1.35 dollar to Euro. Buying 7 day Pass at RailItaly or Eurail is $355 with $18 shipping from Eurail. So, unless you will be going up and down all of Italy 7 times, cheaper to buy as you go.
